It’s A Wonderful Life character super Auditions
Capital City Theatre is seeking non-union dynamic physical actors to join the cast for our upcoming fully staged production of It’s A Wonderful Life, A New Musical.
We are conceptualizing this production as a live 1940s Hollywood sound stage. To bring this vision to life, we are casting a team of non-speaking, non-singing "Stage Hands" who will be integral to the storytelling. These performers need to be skilled in physical theatre or slapstick. They will be featured on deck throughout the production, managing set changes and furniture movement with the precision of a professional film crew, while incorporating Buster Keaton-inspired physical comedy to bridge scenes and maintain the "behind-the-scenes" narrative.
All positions are paid and will be required to be all at tech rehearsals and performances.
What We’re Looking For:
Physical Comedy Skills: Ability to execute slapstick, pratfalls, and deadpan comedic timing safely and consistently.
Movement & Stamina: High level of spatial awareness, physical strength for lifting/moving set pieces, and the ability to maintain high energy across a fast-paced production.
Ensemble Chemistry: A "hive mind" approach to performance; the ability to communicate and coordinate complex movements silently with other ensemble members.
Character: The ability to remain in a period-appropriate character while performing technical tasks on stage.
Submission Requirements:
Please submit a video audition consisting of:
Introduction (30 seconds): A brief introduction stating your name and why this project interests you.
Movement Reel/Demonstration (1-2 minutes): Showcase your physical comedy range. We want to see how you move!Demonstrate a simple "task" (e.g., moving a chair or object across the frame) and incorporate a physical "hiccup" or comedic complication.
Note: Safety is paramount; please ensure all physical demonstrations are performed in a controlled, safe environment.Resume: Please attach your theatrical resume/headshot.
Local to Madison, WI: Performers must have their own transportation and housing. Performers are paid a weekly stipend and will receive a travel/gas stipend.
