Event Trivia
We had a blast hosting Capital City Theatre's "Peace on Earth" event last week. And we spared no detail helping them pull off a 1942 theme. The mics in use for the evening's radio play were from company owner & CEO Jonathan Lipp's vault and are actual, pristine, pre-1942 RCA mics.
The 44B Velocity Ribbon mic was introduced in 1933 and quickly replaced the condenser mics that were in wide use at the time, as those could not compete with the 44's frequency response. Many 44s are still in use today, as a matter of fact.
The Polydirectional 77-D had a directional screw that could be adjusted to narrow the bi-directionality down to a near cardioid. And the earlier versions used cow hair to dampen the resonance which gave each mic their own distinct sound.
