The Story

Based on the classic novel by Jean Webster, which inspired the 1955 movie starring Fred Astaire . . . Daddy Long Legs is modern take on a beloved tale in the spirit of Edwardian age …Jane Austen, The Brontë Sisters, and “Downton Abbey.”

Jerusha Abbott, a poor, teenaged girl, has spent her life in an orphanage, but is told that a mysterious benefactor will pay for her college education to become a writer, as long as she writes to him once a month, without reply. Jerusha isn’t allowed to meet him, but once gets a glimpse of her patron as he leaves the orphanage. She notices his height and calls him ‘Daddy Long Legs,’ as she grows ever more curious about the elusive, “old” gentleman. Meanwhile, a friendship blooms with Jervis Pendleton, a wealthy uncle of one of her roommates. Through her correspondence with her patron and her growing intimacy with Jervis, Jerusha chronicles her emergence as a delightfully independent woman. Still, one startling secret will change her life forever.

Kailey Boyle (Jerusha)- Kailey is elated to be performing with Capital City Theatre! She is a Madison native and a Find Your Light alumni. She recently graduated from Baldwin Wallace University with a Bachelor of Music in Music Theatre. Recent credits include Nellie Forbush in South Pacific in Concert with the Cleveland Orchestra at Blossom Music Festival, Sophie Sheridan in MAMMA MIA! at Idaho Shakespeare Festival/Great Lakes Theatre, Martha in The Secret Garden at New London Barn Playhouse, and Lauren in the collegiate premiere of Kinky Boots. She would like to thank her incredibly supportive family and the people continuously supporting the arts during this time. She dedicates this performance to her grandmother, Sherry Marnell.

Stephen Amato (Director)- Stephen is a NYC based director, writer, teacher, and fight director with more than fifteen years of experience. He has worked regionally throughout the country including Ford’s Theatre, Hartford Stage, and Paper Mill Playhouse. His NYC credits include The Public Theatre, New World Stages, Theatre Row, and The Carlyle where he directed and co-wrote Lena Hall's one woman show Oh You Pretty Things, He is excited to be collaborating with Capital City Theatre again, having directed their inaugural production of, Violet. He is a proud member of SDC and a doting father to a 3-year-old monster.

Evan Lange (Musical Director) - Evan is a music director, composer, and pianist in the Madison Area. Recent MD credits include The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill... (CCT), Carrie (CCT), On the Town (Asst. MD, CCT), The Last Five Years (SPTG), Hedwig And The Angry Inch (MPC), All Shook Up (MPT), The Little Mermaid (SPHS), and Cabaret (Out!Cast/StageQ). He recently co-wrote a piece for Music Theatre of Madison's "Beyond the Ingenue: Trailblazers" and is currently writing a musical for their 2021 season.
